Question:

2 candidates contested an election. The winning candidate got 52% of the valid votes and won by a margin of 360 votes. If 10% of votes were declared invalid, then what was the total number of votes polled?

Options:

11,000

10,000

8,000

12,000

Correct Answer:

10,000

Explanation:

4% = \(\frac{1}{25}\) & 90% = \(\frac{9}{10}\)

(52% - 48%) of Valid votes = 360

\(\frac{1}{25}\) × Total valid votes = 360

Total valid votes = 9000

Now , Valid votes = 90% of total votes

Total votes = \(\frac{10}{9}\)× 9000 = 10000
