Question:

In a rummy game, 2 cards are drawn from a pack of 52 cards. What is the probability that both the cards are of red colour?

Options:

\(\frac{13}{102}\)

\(\frac{13}{51}\)

\(\frac{25}{102}\)

\(\frac{25}{51}\)

Correct Answer:

\(\frac{25}{102}\)

Explanation:

The number of red cards = 26

The number of ways of selection 2 red cards out of 26 cards = 26C2

= \(\frac{26\;×\;25}{2}\) = 13 × 25

The number of ways of selection 2 cards out of 52 cards = 52C2

 = \(\frac{52\;×\;51}{2}\) = 26 × 51

The reqd. probability = \(\frac{13\;×\;25}{ 26\;×\;51}\) = \(\frac{25}{102}\)

Hence, option C is correct.
