Question:

Two trains start at same time from two stations towards each other at the speed of 12 km/hr and 15 km/hr . At the time of meeting the faster train covers 75 km more distance than other . Find the distance between two stations .

Options:

750 km

700 km

625 km

675 km

Correct Answer:

675 km

Explanation:

Let time of travelling be t hours

Distance travelled by train with speed 12 km/hr = 12 × t = 12t

Distance travelled by train with speed 15 km/hr = 15 × t = 15t

According to question ,

Difference in distance travelled by two trains = 75 km

15t - 12t = 75

3t = 75     ⇒     t = 25

Distance between two stations is = 12t + 15t = 27 × 25 = 675 km
