Choose the correct answer from the options given below:
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 2
The correct answer is Option (2) → A and B only
When a partner is guaranteed a minimum profit and his share falls short, the deficiency is borne by the partners who gave the guarantee, in the ratio agreed; with no ratio stated, in their own profit sharing ratio. Amit and Ritu bear it in 3 : 2.
Rs. 30,000 in 3 : 2 : 1 = Amit Rs. 15,000, Ritu Rs. 10,000, Zara Rs. 5,000
Deficiency = Rs. 8,000 − Rs. 5,000 = Rs. 3,000
Borne in 3 : 2 = Amit Rs. 1,800, Ritu Rs. 1,200
Amit = Rs. 15,000 − Rs. 1,800 = Rs. 13,200
Ritu = Rs. 10,000 − Rs. 1,200 = Rs. 8,800
A. Amit’s share of profit is Rs. 13,200 Correct. His Rs. 15,000 less his Rs. 1,800 share of the deficiency.
B. Ritu’s share of profit is Rs. 8,800. Correct. Her Rs. 10,000 less her Rs. 1,200 share of the deficiency.
C. Amit’s share of profit is Rs. 12,300. Incorrect. This takes Rs. 2,700 from Amit, but his part of the deficiency is only Rs. 1,800.
D. Ritu’s share of profit is Rs. 10,000. Incorrect. That is her share before the guarantee is met; her Rs. 1,200 still has to come out of it.
