In the Rigveda, we find a prayer to Agni, the God of Fire, presented through two verses. These verses beseech Agni to carry forth the sacrifice to the Gods and grant abundant food to the worshippers. Additionally, they seek Agni's assistance in obtaining wealth through the act of sacrifice and express a desire for a son to continue their lineage. It is important to note that these verses were composed in a unique form of Sanskrit called Vedic Sanskrit. Traditionally, they were passed down orally, with men belonging to priestly families entrusted with preserving and transmitting this sacred knowledge from one generation to another. |
