Manoj purchased a car from DD Motors invoiced at 10 Lacs. The company offered many attractive gifts, like free insurance for the first two years, free pick-up and drop facilities for free servicing of upto 20,000 km etc. But after a few days, he noticed that the pick-up of the car was not good and there was some problem with the engine of the car. The company serviced the car for free, but even then, Manoj was not satisfied with the performance of the car. Manoj again called the customer care services of DD Motors, but DD Motors did not give him the due response. So he filed a complaint with the District Commission after but was not satisfied with the decision. He was very disturbed and, after a month, decided to appeal against it.

District commission has a jurisdiction to entertain complaints where value of goods or services paid as consideration does not exceed one crore rupees. Either on the first hearing or at any later stage, it appears to district commission that there exists elements of settlement which may be acceptable to the parties, it may direct them to give their consent for settlement of dispute through mediation within five days.
