Let x is the mean proportion and

y is 3rd proportion

Here,

Mean proportion = \(\sqrt {a\;×\;b}\)

⇒ x = \(\sqrt{4.8\;×\;10.8}\) = 7.2, and

3rd proportion = \(\frac{b^2}{a}\)

⇒ y =  \(\frac{2.4×2.4}{0.4}\) = 14.4

x  :  y  = 7.2  :  14.4 = 1  :  2
