Question:

A farmer's land is in the shape of a trapezium which has its parallel sides measuring 6.32 yards and 7.68 yards and the distance between the parallel sides is 5.50 yards. The cost of ploughing the land is Rs 1200 per square yard. What amount have to be spend in order to plough the entire land?

Options:

Rs 36600

Rs 32500

Rs 55400

Rs 46200

Correct Answer:

Rs 46200

Explanation:

Area of a trapezium = $\frac{1}{2}$ (sum of parallel sides) x height

 The area of land = $\frac{1}{2}$ (6.32 + 7.68) x 5.50

                          = $\frac{1}{2}$  x 14 x 5.50

                          =  38.5 yards square

Cost of ploughing this land = Area x cost of ploughing per square yard

                                       = 38.5 x 1200

                                        =  Rs 46,200
