Question:

If a number is first increased by 15%, then reduced by 15%, it results in 782. If the same number is first reduced by 25%, then increased by 25% and again reduced by 20%, then what will be the resulting number?

Options:

712

760

600

650

Correct Answer:

600

Explanation:

Let x be the number,

ATQ,

⇒ x × \(\frac{115}{100}\) × \(\frac{85}{100}\) = 782

⇒ x = 782 × \(\frac{100}{115}\) × \(\frac{100}{85}\)

⇒ x = 800

Now,

⇒ 800 × \(\frac{75}{100}\) × \(\frac{125}{100}\) × \(\frac{80}{100}\)

= 800 × \(\frac{3}{4}\) × \(\frac{5}{4}\) × \(\frac{4}{5}\)

= 800 × \(\frac{3}{4}\)

= 600
