On application of the reverse bias, what happens to the depletion layer?

The layer expands the layer has no effect the layer contracts it depends upon the resistance of the material.

Irrespective of the resistance of the material, on application of reverse bias, the width of the depletion layer increases. On forward bias, the depletion layer width reduces.
