Absorptive capacity indicates the ability of environment to absorb the degradation it faces in the day to day life.

The environment is able to perform its functions without any interruption as long as these functions are done within the carrying capacity. By carrying capacity we mean to be able to fulfill the following conditions:

1. Extraction of resources < rate of regeneration of resources
2. Waste generation should be less than the assimilation capacity of the environment
