Question:

The diameter of a circle is increased by 100%. What is the percentage increase in area?

Options:

250%

100%

150%

300%

Correct Answer:

300%

Explanation:

Let, diameter of the circle be 14 cm

So, area = πr2 = \(\frac{22 }{ 7}\) x 7 x 7 = 154 cm2

Now, diameter is increased by 100% i.e. 28 cm

So, area = πr2 = \(\frac{22 }{ 7}\) x 14 x 14 = 616 cm2

Increase in the area = 462 cm2

Percentage increase = \(\frac{ 462}{154 }\) x 100 = 300%
