In which part of India was the partition most bloody and destructive?

While carnages occurred in Calcutta and Noakhali in 1946, the Partition was the most bloody and destructive in Punjab. The near-total displacement of Hindus and Sikhs eastwards into India from West Punjab and of almost all Punjabi-speaking Muslims to Pakistan happened in a relatively short period of two years between 1946 and 1948.
