The correct answer is Option 4 - (E), (C), (A), (B), (D) (E) Self-respect movement in Tamil Nadu - 1925 Detailed explanation: E.V. Ramasami Naicker (1879-1973), widely known as Periyar, was a prominent figure recognized for his significant contributions. Periyar staunchly advocated atheism and gained recognition for his fervent anti-caste endeavors and the revival of Dravidian identity. Commencing his journey as a member of the Congress party, he established the self-respect movement in 1925, which aimed to empower individuals with self-esteem. He notably spearheaded the anti-Brahmin movement, striving for social equality and justice. After Independence, the Mizo Hills area was made an autonomous district within Assam. Some Mizos believed that they were never a part of British India and therefore did not belong to the Indian Union. But the movement for secession gained popular support after the Assam government failed to respond adequately to the great famine of 1959 in Mizo hills. The Mizos’ anger led to the formation of the Mizo National Front (MNF) under the leadership of Laldenga. In 1966 the MNF started an armed campaign for independence. Thus, started a two decade long battle between Mizo insurgents and the Indian army. Separate state of Haryana and Punjab were formed in 1966. Following the reorganization of Punjab in 1966, the Akali Party attained power in both 1967 and 1977 through coalition governments. Despite the territorial adjustments, their political footing was still uncertain. |
