Question:

Given $A=\left[\begin{array}{ll}2 & 3 \\ 1 & 4\end{array}\right]$ and $B=\left[\begin{array}{ll}x & y \\ 1 & 4\end{array}\right]$, If $A=B$, then $x$ and $y$ are :

Options:

$x=2, y=3$

$x=1, y=2$

$x=3, y=2$

$x=-2, y=-3$

Correct Answer:

$x=2, y=3$

Explanation:

$A=\left[\begin{array}{ll}2 & 3 \\ 1 & 4\end{array}\right]$

$B=\left[\begin{array}{ll}x & y \\ 1 & 4\end{array}\right]$

Given  A = B ⇒ their order is same as well as each of their respective elements are same

So  $x=2, y=3$
