Question:

In an election between two candidates, 10% of the voters did not cast their vote and 5% of the votes polled were found invalid. The successful candidate got 55% of the valid votes and won by a majority of 1710 votes. How many voters were enrolled?

Options:

20000

21000

19000

20500

Correct Answer:

20000

Explanation:

90% = \(\frac{9}{10}\) & 95% = \(\frac{19}{20}\)

10% of total valid votes = 1710

Total valid votes = 17100

Now , Total valid votes = 95% of total polled votes

Total polled votes =  \(\frac{17100}{19}\) × 20

= 18000

Total polled votes = 90% of Total number of votes

Total number of votes =  \(\frac{18000}{9}\) × 10

= 20000

So , Total number of votes = 20000
