Question:

A train travels at a speed of 55 km/h and halts at six junctions for a certain time .  If it covers a distance of 2552 kms in two days .  For how long (in minutes) does the train stop at each junction , if it halts for the same period of time at all the junctions ?

Options:

6 min

16 min

96 min

18 min

Correct Answer:

16 min

Explanation:

Distance = Speed × Time

Without stoppage Distance = 55 × 48 = 2640 km

For stoppage it moves 2640 - 2552 = 88 km less

                 Time to cover 88 km = \(\frac{88}{55}\) = 1 h 36 min = 96 min

                Duration of each stop = \(\frac{96}{6}\) = 16 min
