Lift was invented by _____.
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 2
The correct answer is Option (2) → E.G. Otis
The lift (elevator) in its modern form was invented by the American mechanic Elisha Graves Otis. Hoists had been used before, but they were unsafe because the platform fell if the rope broke. In 1852 Otis built a safety brake that locks the car to its guide rails the moment the rope gives way, and he showed it in public in New York in 1854. This made lifts safe for people and opened the way to tall buildings.
