Antibodies produced by immune system for allergens are:
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 3
The correct answer is Option (3) → IgE
Allergy is an exaggerated response of the immune system to substances in the environment, such as pollen or dust mites. These substances are called allergens. The antibodies made against them are of the IgE type. They cause mast cells to release histamine and serotonin, which give sneezing, watery eyes and a running nose.
(1) IgG — Incorrect. This is another class of antibody, made against germs in general. NCERT does not link it to allergy.
(2) IgM — Incorrect. This is also a class of antibody against antigens in general. It is not the one made in allergy.
(3) IgE — Correct. This is the antibody made in response to allergens.
(4) IgA — Incorrect. NCERT mentions this antibody in the colostrum, the mother’s first milk, which protects the infant. It is not the allergy antibody.
