Which of the following has significantly contributed to turn the concept of the global village into a reality?
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 3
The correct answer is Option (3) → Cyber Space
Option (1) Trans-Continental Railways — Incorrect. Railways such as the Trans-Siberian carry people and goods across a continent faster, but they still need physical movement over long distances.
Option (2) Trans-Continental Highways — Incorrect. Highways across a continent link far-off cities by road, but travel on them still takes days, so they do not remove distance.
Option (3) Cyber Space — Correct. Cyberspace is the electronic digital world of the Internet, where people communicate without moving. Through e-mail, e-commerce, e-learning and e-governance it reaches billions; it is these modern communication systems, more than transportation, that have made the global village a reality.
Option (4) Inter-Continental Airways — Incorrect. Air routes bring every place within 35 hours, but people and goods must still be carried, while communication links them at once.
NCERT (2025-26): “Cyber Space – Internet … As billions use the Internet each year, cyberspace will expand the contemporary economic and social space of humans through e-mail, e-commerce, e-learning and e-governance. Internet together with fax, television and radio will be accessible to more and more people cutting across place and time. It is these modern communication systems, more than transportation, that has made the concept of global village a reality.” |
