At the time of dissolution of a partnership firm, the stock appeared in the books was Rs. 35,000. One of the partner took over 50% of the stock at 10% less than its book value, and the remaining stock was sold at a gain of 15%. Find the total amount realized from the stock in cash.
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 3
The correct answer is Option (3) → Rs. 20,125
Only the stock sold to outsiders brings cash. The stock taken over by a partner is settled through his account, so no cash comes in for it.
Stock taken over by the partner = 50% of Rs. 35,000 = Rs. 17,500
Value to the partner = Rs. 17,500 − 10% = Rs. 15,750 (no cash)
Stock sold = Rs. 17,500 at a gain of 15%
Cash realised = Rs. 17,500 × 115/100 = Rs. 20,125
