Which among the following statements are correct about globalization?
A. Globalization is purely technological phenomenon.
B. Globalization is about worldwide interconnectedness.
C. Globalization leads to rise of a uniform culture.
D. Globalization has involved greater trade in commodities across the globe.
Choose the correct answer from the options given below:
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 2
The correct answer is Option (2) → B, C and D only
A. Globalization is purely technological phenomenon. Incorrect. Technology remains a critical element, but globalisation is a multidimensional concept with political, economic and cultural manifestations, and it is not caused by any single factor.
B. Globalization is about worldwide interconnectedness. Correct. It is about the ‘worldwide interconnectedness’ created and sustained by constant flows of ideas, capital, commodities and people.
C. Globalization leads to rise of a uniform culture. Correct. This is the cultural effect, called cultural homogenisation.
D. Globalization has involved greater trade in commodities across the globe. Correct.
Note: The original NTA paper printed Option (3) as ‘D, C, and B only’. It names the same three statements as Option (2) in a different order, so it was also correct, and NTA accepted both Option (2) and Option (3) in its final answer key. So that the question has one answer, Option (3) has been changed to ‘A, B and C only’.
NCERT (2025-26): “The Concept of Globalisation … Since much of the usage tends to be imprecise, it becomes important to clarify what we mean by globalisation. Globalisation as a concept fundamentally deals with flows. These flows could be of various kinds — ideas moving from one part of the world to another, capital shunted between two or more places, commodities being traded across borders, and people moving in search of better livelihoods to different parts of the world. The crucial element is the ‘worldwide interconnectedness’ that is created and sustained as a consequence of these constant flows. The Concept of Globalisation … Globalisation is a multi-dimensional concept. It has political, economic and cultural manifestations, and these must be adequately distinguished. It is wrong to assume that globalisation has purely economic dimensions, just as it would also be mistaken to assume that it is a purely cultural phenomenon.… Economic Consequences … Globalisation has involved greater trade in commodities across the globe; the restrictions imposed by different countries on allowing the imports of other countries have been reduced.… Cultural Consequences … The cultural effect of globalisation leads to the fear that this process poses a threat to cultures in the world. It does so, because globalisation leads to the rise of a uniform culture or what is called cultural homogenisation.…” |
