During pregnancy the placenta also works as an endocrine tissue, which means it makes hormones. Three hormones are made in a woman only during pregnancy: hCG, hPL and relaxin.
A. Human chorionic gonadotropin — Correct. The placenta makes hCG.
B. Androgens — Incorrect. Androgens are the male sex hormones, made by the Leydig cells of the testis. They are not one of the hormones that appear in a woman only because she is pregnant.
