Ravi can row a boat in still water at the speed of 14 km/h. If a river is flowing at the speed of 2 km/h and Ravi takes 3 hours to cover a certain distance upstream, then bow much time will he take to cover the same distance downstream?

2 h 15 m

Explanation:

Given that,

Speed of the boat = 14kmph

Flow of the river = 2kmph

Time taken = Ravi takes 3 hours to cover a certain distance upstream

Effective speed during the upstream journey = (14 - 2) kmph = 12kmph

Distance covered = 12 × 3 = 36 hours

Effective speed during the downstream journey = (14 + 2) kmph = 16 kmph

So, time taken by Ravi to cover 36 km downstream = 36 ÷ 16 = 2.25 hours = 2 hours 15 minutes
