Receptors are of various types which conduct different bodily functions. Without receptors the communication process cannot occur as cells will not be able to receive the signal sent by the brain. Thus, the assertion is correct. The receptors are proteins, thus the reason is also correct.
But, the reason that receptors are proteins is not the correct explanation for receptors being crucial to the communication process.
