Question:

In an election between 2 candidates, 5% of the votes were invalid. The winning candidate got 2200 votes and the losing candidate got 1600 votes. The losing candidate got what percentage of the total votes cast ?

Options:

35%

30%

45%

40%

Correct Answer:

40%

Explanation:

Total valid votes = 1600 + 2200 = 3800

Total valid votes  = 95% of Total number of votes

Total number of votes =  \(\frac{20}{19}\) × 3800

= 4000

Now , Percentage of looser candidate = \(\frac{1600}{2000}\) × 100

= 40%
