Question:

A man buys a single article at ₹16. If he were to buy a dozen articles, he would have to pay a total amount of ₹160. What would be the approximate percent discount (correct to nearest integer) he would get on buying a dozen articles?

Options:

10%

17%

12%

22%

Correct Answer:

17%

Explanation:

A single article can be bought at = 16

If a dozen article he bought he has to give = 160

According to question

Cost of one article = Rs. 16

Cost of 12 articles = 16 × 12 = Rs. 192

But he gave Rs. 160

Hence, discount = 192 – 160 = 32

 Discount percentage = \(\frac{32}{192}\) × 100 = 16.66% = 17%
