The total marks obtained by Amit in subjects A, B and C is what percent less than the total marks obtained by Vikram in subjects B, C, D and E?

Options:

42

35

40

38

Correct Answer:

40

Explanation:

Total marks of Amit in subjects A, B and C = 64% of 75 + 65% of 80 + 80% of 100

=   \(\frac{16}{25}\) × 75 +   \(\frac{13}{20}\) × 80 +   \(\frac{4}{5}\) × 100

= 48 + 52 + 80

= 180

Total marks of Vikram in B ,C ,  D & E = 70% of 80  + 73% of 100 + 84% of 50 + 86% of 150

= \(\frac{7}{10}\) × 80 +   \(\frac{73}{100}\) × 100 +   \(\frac{21}{25}\) × 50  + \(\frac{43}{50}\) × 150

= 56 + 73 + 42 + 129

= 300

Required percentage = \(\frac{300 - 180}{300}\) × 100

= \(\frac{120}{300}\) × 100

= 40%
