Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 3
The correct answer is Option (3) → Rs. 9,60,000 and Rs. 4,80,000 respectively
When the old partners’ capitals are to be adjusted on the basis of the new partner’s capital, the new partner’s capital and share fix the total capital of the new firm, which is then divided among the old partners in their profit sharing ratio.
Total capital of the firm = Rs. 3,60,000 × 5/1 = Rs. 18,00,000
Share of the old partners = 1 − 1/5 = 4/5
Capital of the old partners together = Rs. 18,00,000 × 4/5 = Rs. 14,40,000
Sudip = Rs. 14,40,000 × 2/3 = Rs. 9,60,000
Sudipth = Rs. 14,40,000 × 1/3 = Rs. 4,80,000
The old partners keep their ratio of 2 : 1 between themselves, so the larger capital belongs to Sudip.
