B, C, D, E only

A, C, D, E only

Correct Answer:

A, B, D, E only

Explanation:

The correct answer is Option (2) → A, B, D, E only

A. The Bhakti saints composed hymns in Tamil in praise of their gods. This is correct.
B. Bhakti saints identified certain shrines as abode of their gods. This is correct.
C. Alvar saints composed 'Tevaram'. this is is incorrect as NAYANARS saints composed Tevaram.
D. The South Indian Bhakti movement atleast attempted to reform the caste system. This is correct.
E. Relations with Buddhism and Jainism in Alvar hymns was cordial. This is correct.

Note: Statement E. Relations with Buddhism and Jainism in Alvar hymns was cordial.  The statement is somewhat ambiguous. According to the NCERT," one of the major themes in Tamil bhakti hymns is the poets’ opposition to Buddhism and Jainism. This is particularly marked in the compositions of the Nayanars." This text shows explicit opposition to Buddhism and Jainism is found in the compositions of the Nayanars, not the Alvars. The text does not clearly mention the stance of the Alvars toward these religions. While one might infer a relatively neutral or non-confrontational tone from the Alvar hymns , this cannot be conclusively interpreted as cordiality. However, this statement is taken as correct in the NTA answer sheet.
