List - I List - II
(A) Albuminous seed (I) Groundnut
(B) Parthenocarpic fruit (II) Apple
(C) Non-albuminous seed (III) Castor
(D) False fruit (IV) Banana

Choose the correct answer from the options given below:

Options:

(A)-(I), (B)-(IV), (C)-(III), (D)-(II)

(A)-(III), (B)-(IV), (C)-(I), (D)-(II)

(A)-(II), (B)-(I), (C)-(IV), (D)-(III)

(A)-(IV), (B)-(III), (C)-(II), (D)-(I)

Correct Answer:

(A)-(III), (B)-(IV), (C)-(I), (D)-(II)

Explanation:
  • The correct answer is Option (2) -(A)-(III), (B)-(IV), (C)-(I), (D)-(II)

  • List - I List - II
    (A) Albuminous seed (III) Castor
    (B) Parthenocarpic fruit (IV) Banana
    (C) Non-albuminous seed (I) Groundnut
    (D) False fruit (II) Apple
  • Albuminous seeds are seeds in which the endosperm is partially or completely retained by the mature seed. Examples of albuminous seeds include wheat, rice, and , barley, castor.
  • Parthenocarpy is a condition in which fruits develop without the formation of seeds, primarily due to the absence of fertilization, pollination, and embryo development in plants. In botanical terms, parthenocarpic fruits are often referred to as "virgin fruits" and are typically seedless. An excellent example of parthenocarpy is seen in bananas, where the produced fruits are sterile, lacking viable ovaries and seeds.
  • Non-albuminous seeds are seeds in which the endosperm is completely consumed by the developing embryo. Examples of non-albuminous seeds include peas, beans, groundnut.
  • False Fruit  :In most plants, by the time the fruit develops from the ovary, other floral parts degenerate and fall off. However, in a few species such as apple, strawberry, cashew, etc., the thalamus also contributes to fruit formation. Such fruits are called false fruits. Most fruits however develop only from the ovary and are called true fruits.
