Question:

If one side of a square is increased by 40%, by what percentage another side is reduced so that its area remains same?

Options:

28\(\frac{4}{7}\)%

25\(\frac{4}{7}\)%

18\(\frac{4}{7}\)%

20\(\frac{4}{7}\)%

Correct Answer:

28\(\frac{4}{7}\)%

Explanation:

Area = Side1 × Side2

*(When area is constant, then the relation b/w sides are inversely proportional)

Side1  :  5  :   7

Side2  :  7  :   5

Side2 should be reduced by = 7 - 5 = 2

So, Reduce percent = \(\frac{2}{7}\) × 100 = 28\(\frac{4}{7}\)%
