Question:

ABC is an equilateral triangle of side 2 cm.  With A, B, C as center and radius 1 cm three area are drawn.  The area of region within the triangle bounded by three area is?

Options:

\((\sqrt {3} - \frac{3 \pi}{2})\) cm2

\((\frac{\pi}{2} - \sqrt {3} )\) cm2

\((\sqrt {3} - \frac{\pi}{2})\) cm2

\(3 (\sqrt {3} - \frac{\pi}{2})\) cm2

Correct Answer:

\((\sqrt {3} - \frac{\pi}{2})\) cm2

Explanation:

Area bound by three arcs = area of triangle - (3 × sector area)

                                     = \(\frac{\sqrt {3}}{4}\) (side)2 - 3 × (\(\frac{60}{360} \pi \)(1)2)

                                     = \(\frac{\sqrt {3}}{4}\) × 4 - 3 × (\(\frac{1}{6} \pi \) )

                                     = (\(\sqrt {3} - \frac{\pi}{2}\)) cm2
