Question:

Aman got 30% of the maximum marks in an examination and failed by 15 marks. However. Anil who took the same examination got 40% of the total marks and got 10 marks more than the passing marks. What were the passing marks in the examination?

Options:

85

90

95

100

Correct Answer:

90

Explanation:

Assume Total Marks be T

Passing Marks be P

Aman's Case:

30% of Max Marks = 15 less than Passing Marks

0.3T+15 = P

Anil's Case:

40% of Max Marks = 10 marks more than Passing Marks

0.4T-10 = P

Equating P,

0.3T+15 = 0.4T-10

0.1T = 25

T = 250

P = 0.3T+15 = 75+15 = 90

The correct answer is Option (2) → 90
