Question:

Two numbers are in the ratio 2 : 3. When 15 is added to both the numbers, the ratio becomes 11 : 14. Find the smaller number.

Options:

13

18

24

27

Correct Answer:

18

Explanation:

Two numbers are in the ratio 2 : 3

Let two numbers are :- 2a , 3a

ATQ,

\(\frac{ 2a + 15 }{ 3a + 15 }\) = \(\frac{ 11 }{ 14 }\)

 28a + 210 = 33a + 165

5a = 45

a =  9

Smaller number = 2a

= 2 × 9

= 18

The correct answer is option (2) : 18
