Choose the correct answer from the options given below:

Options:

A, B, and C only

A, C and E only

A and D only

A and E only

Correct Answer:

A, C and E only

Explanation:

Primary sector is the main source of employment for majority of workers in India. About three-fifth of India’s workforce depends on agriculture and other allied activities as the major source of livelihood.

All the public sector establishments and those private sector establishments which employ 10 hired workers or more are called formal sector establishments and those who work in such establishments are formal sector workers.

In 2011-12 there were about 473 million workers in India. There were about 30 million workers in the formal sector i.e. about only six per cent (30/473×100)! Thus, the rest 94 per cent are in the informal sector. Thus, we can say that majority of Indian workforce is employed in the informal sector.

The distribution of workforce in the last five decades shows that people have moved from self-employment and regular salaried employment to casual wage work. Yet self-employment continues to be the major employment provider.

In recent years, the growth of employment has decelerated in India.
