Question:

In a city 60% of the population are males and the rest are females. If the ratio of married males to non-married males is 5 : 7, and the ratio of married females to non-married females is 2: 3, then what percentage of the total population is married?

Options:

41%

59%

51%

49%

Correct Answer:

41%

Explanation:

Let total Population = 100x

Population of males = 60% of 100x = 60x

Ratio of ,   Married : non married male   =   5  :   7

12R =  60x

1R = 5x

Number of Married male = 5 × 5x = 25x

Population of females = 40% of 100x = 40x

Ratio of ,   Married : non married female   =   2  :  3

 5R = 40x

1R = 8x

2R = 16x

Required percentage = \(\frac{16x + 25x}{100x}\) × 100 = 41%
