Regional imbalances in development |
While language played a significant role in the formation of states, it was not the only determining factor. Over time, demands for separate states have emerged based on distinct regional cultures and grievances regarding uneven development. This led to the creation of Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, and Jharkhand in 2000, followed by the emergence of Telangana as a new state on 2nd June 2014. However, the process of state reorganisation is still ongoing, as numerous regions across the country continue to advocate for separate and smaller states. Examples of such movements include Vidarbha in Maharashtra, Harit Pradesh in the western region of Uttar Pradesh, and various regions in northern West Bengal. |
