Megasthenes was a Greekambassador to the court of Chandragupta Maurya.

He authored the famous book 'Indica'.

Megasthenes mentioned a committee with six subcommittees responsible for coordinating military activities. Each subcommittee had distinct duties: one oversaw the navy, the second managed transport and provisions, the third handled foot soldiers, the fourth was in charge of horses, the fifth took care of chariots, and the sixth dealt with elephants. Notably, the second subcommittee had a wide range of responsibilities, such as arranging bullock carts for equipment transportation, procuring food and fodder for soldiers and animals, and recruiting servants and artisans to support the soldiers.
