Explanation:

On the basis of language, Haryana (Hindi-speaking region of east Punjab) was separated as an independent state from the state of Punjab in 1966. Chandigarh is the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana.

The bilingual state of Bombay was created in 1956 which comprised Marathi-speaking and Gujarati-speaking regions. After a popular agitation, the state of Maharashtra was created in 1960 by separating the Gujarati-speaking regions of Bombay.

While language played a significant role in the formation of states, it was not the only determining factor. Over time, demands for separate states have emerged based on distinct regional cultures and grievances regarding uneven development. This led to the creation of Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, and Jharkhand in 2000, followed by the emergence of Telangana as a new state on 2nd June 2014.
