Question:

In a box there are 8 blue, x green, (x-2) red and 10 black balloons. Probability of choosing one green balloon from the given box is \(\frac{1}{4}\). What is the sum of the number of green, red and black balloons?

Options:

24

18

16

34

Correct Answer:

24

Explanation:

Probability of choosing one green ball = \(\frac{1}{4}\)

⇒ \(\frac{X}{X\;+\;X\;-\;2\;+\;8\;+\;10}\) = \(\frac{1}{4}\)

⇒ 4X = 2X+ 16

⇒ 2X= 16

⇒ X= 8

⇒ No. of green ,red and black ballons = X + X - 2 + 10

                                                            = 2X + 8

                                                            = 2(8) + 8 = 24
