Which one of the following is a west flowing river?
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 4
The correct answer is Option (4) → Narmada
Most rivers of peninsular India flow east into the Bay of Bengal. The Narmada is one of the few that flow west into the Arabian Sea; it runs through a rift valley between the Vindhya and the Satpura ranges. The Mahanadi and the Krishna flow east to the Bay of Bengal, and the Chambal flows north-east to join the Yamuna.
Note: The rivers of India and the direction in which they flow are not covered in the current NCERT Geography textbook (2025-26).
