Question:

The numbers 9, 11, 12, 16, 18, 22 and N are arranged in ascending order. The mean of these numbers is equal to the median of the numbers. The value of N is?

Options:

16

24

22

18

Correct Answer:

24

Explanation:

Arrange in Ascending order = 9, 11, 12, 16, 18, 22

 Total no. = 7 i.e. odd no.

Median in case of odd no. = \(\frac{n+1}{2}\)th term

      i.e. 4th term

Median = 16

and it is given that , Median = Mean

   Mean =  \(\frac{sum\;of \;all \;the \;digits }{total \; no. \;of \;digits}\)

             =\(\frac{9+11+12+16+18+22+N}{7}\)

            =\(\frac{88+N}{7}\)

              \(\frac{88+N}{7}\) = 16

                 N= 24
