Question:

In an election between two candidates, a candidate who gets 76% of the total votes polled is elected by a majority of 1480 votes. What is the total number of votes polled? (Consider integral part only)

Options:

2800

1800

2846

1846

Correct Answer:

2846

Explanation:

Let us assume that 100% of votes are polled

Since, the winning candidate gets = 76% votes of polled votes

Hence, the other candidate gets = 24% votes of the polled votes.

⇒ Difference = (76 - 24) = 52% of polled  votes.

Now, According to the question winning candidate got the majority of votes = 1480

 52% of polled votes  = 1480

  100% polled votes = \(\frac{1480}{52}\)  × 100 = 2846.15

Hence, the number of votes polled =  2846
