In a mixture, milk and water are in ratio of 1 : 4. Some milk is added to the mixture because of which ratio of milk and water becomes 2 : 1. How much milk was added as a percentage of initial mixture ?

Options:

140 percent

700 percent

240 percent

400 percent

Correct Answer:

140 percent

Explanation:

Ratio of milk and water = 1 : 4

New ration after the addition of  more Milk = 2 : 1,

Let x be the the milk added,

⇒ \(\frac{1+x}{4}\) = \(\frac{2}{1}\)

⇒ x = 7,

So, 7 litres of milk is added to the mixture,

The total mixture is = 1 + 4 = 5,

Percentage of milk added ,

\(\frac{7}{5}\) x 100 = 140%
