Question:

Two trains start at same time from two stations towards each other at the speed of 20 km/hr and 16 km/hr . At the time of meeting the faster train covers 60 km more distance than other . Find the distance between two stations .

Options:

480 km

720 km

540 km

620 km

Correct Answer:

540 km

Explanation:

Let time of travelling be t hours

Distance travelled by train with speed 16 km/hr = 16 × t = 16t

Distance travelled by train with speed 20 km/hr = 20 × t = 20t

According to question ,

Difference in distance travelled by two trains = 60 km

20t - 16t = 60

4t = 60     ⇒     t = 15

Distance between two stations is = 16t + 20t = 36 × 15 = 540 km
