C. Rajagopalachari (1878-1972) was a prominent leader in the Indian National Congress and a talented writer. He worked closely with Mahatma Gandhi and played a crucial role in the Constituent Assembly. As the first Indian Governor-General of India from 1948 to 1950, he made history. Rajagopalachari also served as a minister in the Union Cabinet and later as the Chief Minister of Madras state. His outstanding contributions earned him the distinction of being the first recipient of the Bharat Ratna Award. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya joined The Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh (RSS) in 1937, became a pracharak, & served as a full-time RSS worker since 1942. He was one of the founding members & the General Secretary of the Bharatiya Jan Sangh (1951- 67). He introduced the concept of ‘Integral Humanism’ which followed the tradition of 'Advaita Vedanta’ (introduced by Adi Shankara).

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar (1891-1956) was a prominent leader of the anti-caste movement & played a pivotal role in the struggle for justice for the Dalits. He founded the Independent Labour Party, The Scheduled Castes Federation & envisioned the formation of the Republican Party of India. However, he resigned from his ministerial post in 1951 due to differences with the government over the Hindu Code Bill. In 1956, he renounced Hinduism and embraced Buddhism along with thousands of his followers.

In 1957, the Communist Party emerged victorious in the assembly elections in Kerala, winning the largest number of seats. E. M. S. Namboodiripad, the leader of the Communist Legislature party, was invited by the governor to form the ministry. This marked the first instance of a Communist party government coming to power through democratic method of elections.
