Question:

If x - \(\frac{1}{x}\) = 3\(\sqrt{5}\)

then find the value of  ( x + \(\frac{1}{x}\) )2

Options:

36

49

25

64

Correct Answer:

49

Explanation:

⇒ If x - \(\frac{1}{x}\) = a then x + \(\frac{1}{x}\) = \(\sqrt {a^2 + 4}\)

Here,

x - \(\frac{1}{x}\) = 3\(\sqrt{5}\), then

⇒ x + \(\frac{1}{x}\) = \(\sqrt {(3\sqrt{5})^2 + 4}\) = 7

⇒ ( x + \(\frac{1}{x}\) )= 72 = 49
