Narender, Nitish and Naidu are partners sharing profits in the ratio of 5:3:2. Nitish retires. Narender and Naidu decide to share the profits of the new firm in the ratio of 3:2. What will be the gaining ratio of Narender and Naidu?
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 3
The correct answer is Option (3) → 1:2
The gaining ratio is the ratio in which the continuing partners acquire the retiring partner’s share. When the new ratio is given, each partner’s gain = new share − old share.
Old shares (5:3:2):
Narender = 5/10, Naidu = 2/10
New shares (3:2):
Narender = 3/5 = 6/10
Naidu = 2/5 = 4/10
Gains:
Narender = 6/10 − 5/10 = 1/10
Naidu = 4/10 − 2/10 = 2/10
Gaining ratio = 1/10 : 2/10 = 1:2
Check: 1/10 + 2/10 = 3/10, which is Nitish’s share.
