Question:

Tea worth Rs.126/kg and Rs.135/kg are mixed with 3rd type of variety in the ratio 1 : 1 : 2. If the mixture is worth Rs.153/kg, then the price of 3rd variety will be(in Rs. per kg)?

Options:

170

175.5

180

182

Correct Answer:

175.5

Explanation:

Qty of 1st & 2nd type of tea is same, therefore average price of both tea is the average of 126 & 135.

Average of (1st +2nd) = \(\frac{126 + 135}{2}\) = Rs.130.5 per kg.

Now,

Let the price of 3rd type of tea = Rs.P per kg.

ATQ,

Qty. of (1st + 2nd) type of tea and 3rd type of tea is same (i.e. (1 + 1) : 2). Therefore, average price of (1st + 2nd) and 3rd type of tea is:

\(\frac{130.5 + P}{2}\) = Rs.153

130.50 + P = 306

P = 306 - 130.50 = 175.5
